Determining the optimum thickness for high harmonic generation from nanoscale thin films: An <i>ab initio</i> computational study

We theoretically investigate high harmonic generation (HHG) from silicon thin films with thicknesses a few atomic layers to hundreds of nanometers, determine the most efficient thickness for producing intense HHG in reflected and transmitted pulses. For this purpose, we employ theoretical computational methods. The sophisticated method is ab initio time-dependent density functional theory coupled Maxwell equations common spatial resolution. This enables us explore such effects as surface electronic structure light propagation, well motion energy band unified manner. also utilize multiscale that applicable thicker films. Two-dimensional approximation introduced obtain an intuitive understanding dependence HHG.
